Oil on panel
"2009. The year I discovered this album was the year I discovered oil paint. Between the studio sessions with my mentor where I learned layer by layer to paint grisaille and reflect light in the way of the Old Masters, I would run into the woods with my friends to hike and camp, Fleet Foxes playing and our voices rising alongside. The track list’s reverence for nature mirrored our experiences in the mountains and forests of Oregon. The cover, a sixteenth century painting by Breugel the Elder, mirrored the techniques I was learning in the studio. And in this summer I was changed and my primary medium was born and the songs echo in my memory with visions of dappled sunlight and laughter and the pure and absolute joy of knowing I’d found my medium. We both debuted.:"
