"I first heard tunes from this album on a rainy night in 1990 while listening to KBOO and thought: this is it. Growing up in Oregon, Greg Sage was built into the DNA of the collective grit of the Northwest. Soon after I found the album, I learned that the partner of my hometown's mayor was Greg Sage's sister, thus perpetuating the notion that in Oregon the three degrees of social separation are often undercut. I painted this mostly from memory, based on the thousands of times I looked at the cover and its content through the lenses of color and graphic elements- all while the title presents an everpresent and especially cogent question for our times, 'Is This Real?'."
